Home Far Infrared Light How to build saunas

If you purchase an Infrared portable home sauna online these days, chances are it will be shipped to you in a build it yourself kit. Don’t let this deter you because sauna construction is easy if you are prepared and follow the manufacturer’s directions. People with even novice construction skills should be able to put a sauna together with little trouble.

Construction will require two people. Do not attempt to do it on your own because you will not be able to install all the necessary pieces and you just don’t want to risk damaging the wood. Cedar (Hemlock, Birch, ect.) has ideal qualities for the sauna environment, but it is a soft wood that splits and dents easily.

The only tool required for construction is a screwdriver. We recommend using an electric drill with a Phillips head bit to save time. You’ll also need some scissors to cut open the boxes and the packaging ties.

The first step is to open the boxes, locate the manufacturer’s directions and cut the packaging ties. After that you will want to take a moment to locate each piece, determine where it is in the directions and decide where it should go. By doing this beforehand you will save yourself from unnecessary problems down the line.

One mistake you want to avoid is in the initial placement of the sauna. Since you build everything on and around the base it is key to place it in the correct position. Make sure the door will be in the right direction and an electrical outlet is close. If you have a bigger unit you want to install a 120 watt 20amp outlet. A major mistake people make is placing the base too close to the walls. In order to build the sauna properly, you will have to access all sides as well as the roof. If you have the base too close to the wall you will never be able to achieve this. Moving the sauna once it is built is not as hard as you think, Make sure to give yourself enough room to work and your construction will be that much easier.

Once the base is positioned, have your partner hold the back wall in position while you install one of the sides. Most Infrared portable home saunas come with magnets or clips that will seal the two pieces together. After securing one side, go ahead and install the other. With the back and sides positioned into the base, you want to install the bench and seat. If you wait and do it after the front door is in, you will only increases the chance for damage to occur.

The most difficult task of the entire process is installing the door. One trick you want to follow is to make sure the door, especially if it is glass, is secured to the sides with tape. This will keep it from opening while you position it. Have your partner stand inside the unit while you stay outside. Position the door into the pre installed slots making sure that both side slide into place. It may take some maneuvering to get it to fit properly. You will know it is secure when the top of the door is even with the tops of the sides and back. Make sure not to forget to install the door handles before you attempt to place the roof because you will be entering and exiting the sauna quite a bit.

Before you position the roof into place make sure the electrical wires are all easily accessible. Even though the roof isn’t extremely heavy, you don’t want to be fumbling for wires while you’re holding it in place. Make sure you pre-install any extra amenities that may have come with your sauna such as stereo systems, flat panel T.V.’s or ionization units.

Lift the roof into position and rest it in place. Have your partner lift one side of the roof while you slip the wires in place and connect them. The wires will come labeled and all you need to do is find its match. This is one of the reasons you wanted to position all the pieces before you began construction. After securing all the sides you will want to install any screws that might have come with the unit to really create a tight fit. Since practically all Infrared portable home saunas sold online come with the electrical systems on the roof, you want to make sure there is enough room above the sauna to properly cool the unit. Not only will your sauna be releasing hot air, but the electrical parts will be as well, so ventilation is critical.

After completing construction of your Infrared portable home sauna, you can start to use it immediately. Make sure you do some research on sauna therapy and take your first few sweat sessions moderately. With this advice you should be able to enjoy your sauna for years to come.
